Thermoelectric, or Peltier Cooling Modules (also known as TECs or TEMs) come in a wide variety of types and sizes. While typically used for cooling, they can also be used for heating (by reversing the electric current flow) and even power generation.

Potted modules have a perimeter seal around the elements and are recommended in cases where cooling below the dew point temperature is expected to occur. See Potting (module sealing) for Moisture Protection and Ruggedization for further details.

Our online Peltier Thermoelectric Cooler Module Selector can provide assistance with selecting a module for the greatest coefficient of performance or for minimizing the size (and usually the cost) of the module. Be sure to review the Instructions for Using Online Thermoelectric Module Selector for complete details on how to use the program.

Once you have selected a module, you can download its performance charts. See Instructions for Using the Thermoelectric Module Performance Charts for details on how to read them correctly.

Information on TEM installation is available here: TEM mounting procedure

Please note that thermoelectric modules must be used with a heat sink. These heat sinks almost always need to be fan or liquid cooled to have a sufficiently low thermal resistance. Improper heat sinking can cause damage to the module. Be sure to review our FAQ's regarding reliability and our recommendations for using pulse-width modulated temperature controllers.
